Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 set to Launch in India Today

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 bezel-less display mobile phone is set to launch in India today. On Monday, just ahead of the smartphone’s launch event in New Delhi, Flipkart revealed that the Mi MIX 2 will be exclusively available on its platform in India. The launch event kicks off at 11:30 am IST and as always. To recall, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 was launched in China last month alongside the Xiaomi Mi Note 3. So far, there’s no indication that the latter smartphone will make its way to India as well. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 India launch will be the first premium phone the Chinese firm has brought to India since the Mi 5 back in March last year.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 price in India

The Mi MIX 2 was unveiled in three RAM and storage variants – 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 32,300), 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage at CNY 3,599 (roughly Rs. 35,300), and 6GB RAM/ 256GB storage at CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 39,200). The Xiaomi company had also unveiled the Mi MIX 2 Special Edition 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a full ceramic body, at CNY 4,699 (roughly Rs. 46,000). However, this last model is unlikely to be launched in India, at least on Tuesday – as it has yet to go on sale in China, where it will be made available to buy in Nov. Price in India of Mi MIX 2 is likely to be similar to what we saw in China.

As for the features, the Mi MIX 2’s biggest highlight is, of course, its bezel-less display. It sports a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080 pixels by 2160 pixels), LCD display with a pixel density of 403ppi and support for DCI-P3 color gamut. There is no ‘upper lip’ above the display, and the front camera has been relegated to the ‘bottom lip’, a design decision that Xiaomi had used with the last Mi MIX as well. The headset is lighter, smaller, and thinner than its predecessor. Featuring a ceramic body, the phone has a frame built out of 7-Series aluminum apart from a 18K gold plated camera ring. Another major highlight is ‘hidden sound-guided speaker’ that resonates sound through the display and frame, completely hiding the speaker itself. Finally, the Xiaomi company is also touting facial recognition technology for unlocking the mobile phone.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 specifications

Apart from the display, which we have already detailed, the regular edition of the Mi MIX 2 specs include dual-SIM support Nano-SIM, a Snapdragon 660 SoC, 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, dual rear camera setup (two 12 MP sensors, one with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and the other with an f/2.6 telephoto lens, offering 4-axis OIS), a 16 MP front camera with 2-micron pixels, up to 128GB of inbuilt storage that isn’t expandable via microSD card, and a 3500mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11c, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB Type-C. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, an infrared sensor, and proximity sensor. It measures 152.6×73.95×7.6mm and weighs 163 grams.

The under Rs. 15,000 segment of mobile phones has seen a lot of new launches of late, but there are two smartphones in particular that really stand out. Those are the Motorola Moto G5S Plus and the Xioami Mi A1, and if you are not sure which of those two is the one for you, then you have come to the right place. In terms of specs, the two smartphones have a lot in common. Both have 5.5-inch full-HD displays (1080 by 1920 pixels), although we felt that the Moto G5S Plus looked a little better, though it’s a close-run thing. Both smartphones are also powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC, with 4GB RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. Both have hybrid dual-SIM slots where the second slot can either house a SIM or a microSD card.

Xiaomi Mi A1 vs Moto G5S Plus: Performance

Despite the very similar specifications, the Xiaomi Mi A1 edged ahead a little on the performance front. The Motorola Moto G5S Plus runs a little hotter, and the Xiaomi Mi A1 also scored better on benchmarks. Both smartphones also feature fast charging, but the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a USB Type-C cable while the Moto G5S Plus has an old-fashioned Micro-USB port. The Xiaomi Mi A1 also has an IR emitter, which can be used to control your TV or home appliances, which is a cool plus.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Images and Price Leaked Ahead of Launch

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has already confirmed its Oct 16 event where it is expected to reveal the new Mate 10 series. Adding further speculation, Huawei Mate 10 Pro has now been leaked in press renders while the price has been also surfaced.

Renowned phone tipster Evan Blass has shared two images of the alleged Mate 10 Pro which is likely to launch later this month showing the device in its full glory. The leaked render shows that the Huawei Mate 10 Pro will be sporting an 18:9 aspect ratio while will also feature dual cameras at the back. Much like previous Mate-series smartphones, Huawei is likely to tie-up with Leica for the dual camera setup on the mobile phone. Another leaked image shows the dual camera setup on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro with Leica branding and teasing f/1.6 aperture value for the handset – an aperture the LG V30 currently boasts of.

Another tipster, Roland Quandt, has separately claimed that the Mate 10 Pro has been spotted in Eastern European retailers with an alleged pricing of EUR 930-940 (roughly Rs. 72,000). If this turns out to be the true price tag of the Huawei Mate 10 Pro, then the premium smartphone could be seen a direct competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Based on preliminary leaks, the Huawei Mate 10 Pro is said to sport an “EntireView” QHD (1440 pixels by 2880 pixels) display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and a screen size of 5.99-inches. Recently, Nokia 8 with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB inbuilt storage alternative were seen in the FCC listing. And soon this variant is expected to be launched in the US. Report by “HMD Global” has confirmed its launch in Europe. Pricing and color option of the new variant are also being revealed in Germany.

Different sources have shown that the Nokia will be launching its new and upcoming top-end variant of the Nokia 8 smartphone in Germany on 20 Oct 2017 expected to come with “polished blue” color at EUR 669 (roughly Rs 51,700) in the country which is 90 Euro more than compared to standard Nokia 8 variant with 4 GB RAM. Micromax Yu company on Thursday launched the Yu Yureka Black device at Rs. 8,999. The device is essentially a reboot of the Yureka that was launched back in 2014. The new version comes with an all new Black color variant with some updated specs and given its budget price tag, we compare the headset with the Xiaomi Redmi 4, Moto G5, and Coolpad Note 5 Lite, which fall under the price segment. Notably, the Moto G5 phone is significantly more expensive but has very similar specifications.

The Yureka Black is powered by an Octa-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A53, Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 processors coupled with 4GB of RAM. In comparison, the Motorola Moto G5 sports a similar 5-inch full-HD IPS display with 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels, while the Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Coolpad Note 5 Lite smartphones, both offer a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors display with 720 pixels by 1280 pixels.

While the Yu Yureka Black smartphone only offers a single RAM option of 4GB, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes in three RAM options of 2/3/4GB, while the Motorola Moto G5 and Coolpad Note 5 Lite phone are offered with 3GB of RAM.

The Motorola Moto G5 is also similar to the Yu Yureka Black device with a 1.4GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor. The Xiaomi Redmi 4 gets a marginally better 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 SoC, while the Coolpad Note 5 Lite is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735CP SoC.

Camera: –

Coming to the smartphone camera specifications, the Yu Yureka Black sports a 13 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and an 8 MP front camera with flash similar to the Coolpad Note 5 Lite. In comparison, the Motorola Moto G5 and Redmi 4 also get a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, but they offer only 5 MP front-facing cameras.

Battery: –

When it comes to battery, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 offers the biggest at 4100mAh, while the Yu Yureka Black, Motorola Moto G5, and Coolpad Note 5 Lite pack 3000mAh, 2800mAh, and 2500mAh batteries, respectively.

OS (operating system): –

The Yureka Black and Redmi 4 smartphone run on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), the Coolpad Note 5 Lite was launched running Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Cool UI 6.0, while the Motorola Moto G5 is the only one among them to run Android 7.0 (Nougat) out-of-the-box.

Price in India: –

Given the specifications of the device, the Redmi 4 is priced the cheapest at Rs. 6,999, while the Coolpad Note 5 Lite was launched for Rs. 8,199, the Yureka Black at Rs. 8,999 and the Moto G5 is the highest at Rs. 11,999. The Redmi 4 is pricing has proved successful so far as it recently registered a milestone, selling 250,000 units in eight minutes in its first sale.

However, the Yureka Black, Moto G5, and Coolpad Note 5 Lite offer a more premium design with metal casings that Xiaomi Redmi 4 does not offer. So if you are looking for a budget device with a premium design, you should consider these smartphones. But if one is looking purely at a price point given the specifications, then the Xiaomi Redmi 4 looks like a clear winner here.
