Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 set to Launch in India Today


Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 bezel-less display mobile phone is set to launch in India today. On Monday, just ahead of the smartphone’s launch event in New Delhi, Flipkart revealed that the Mi MIX 2 will be exclusively available on its platform in India. The launch event kicks off at 11:30 am IST and as always. To recall, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 was launched in China last month alongside the Xiaomi Mi Note 3. So far, there’s no indication that the latter smartphone will make its way to India as well. Notably, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 India launch will be the first premium phone the Chinese firm has brought to India since the Mi 5 back in March last year.

The Mi MIX 2 was unveiled in three RAM and storage variants – 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage at CNY 3,299 (roughly Rs. 32,300), 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage at CNY 3,599 (roughly Rs. 35,300), and 6GB RAM/ 256GB storage at CNY 3,999 (roughly Rs. 39,200). The Xiaomi company had also unveiled the Mi MIX 2 Special Edition 8GB of RAM, 128GB storage, and a full ceramic body, at CNY 4,699 (roughly Rs. 46,000). However, this last model is unlikely to be launched in India, at least on Tuesday – as it has yet to go on sale in China, where it will be made available to buy in Nov. Price in India of Mi MIX 2 is likely to be similar to what we saw in China.

As for the features, the Mi MIX 2’s biggest highlight is, of course, its bezel-less display. It sports a 5.99-inch full-HD (1080 pixels by 2160 pixels), LCD display with a pixel density of 403ppi and support for DCI-P3 color gamut. There is no ‘upper lip’ above the display, and the front camera has been relegated to the ‘bottom lip’, a design decision that Xiaomi had used with the last Mi MIX as well. The headset is lighter, smaller, and thinner than its predecessor. Featuring a ceramic body, the phone has a frame built out of 7-Series aluminum apart from a 18K gold plated camera ring. Another major highlight is ‘hidden sound-guided speaker’ that resonates sound through the display and frame, completely hiding the speaker itself. Finally, the Xiaomi company is also touting facial recognition technology for unlocking the mobile phone.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 specifications

Apart from the display, which we have already detailed, the regular edition of the Mi MIX 2 specs include dual-SIM support Nano-SIM, a Snapdragon 660 SoC, 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, dual rear camera setup (two 12 MP sensors, one with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and the other with an f/2.6 telephoto lens, offering 4-axis OIS), a 16 MP front camera with 2-micron pixels, up to 128GB of inbuilt storage that isn’t expandable via microSD card, and a 3500mAh battery. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11c, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB Type-C. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, an infrared sensor, and proximity sensor. It measures 152.6×73.95×7.6mm and weighs 163 grams.

Despite the very similar specifications, the Xiaomi Mi A1 edged ahead a little on the performance front. The Motorola Moto G5S Plus runs a little hotter, and the Xiaomi Mi A1 also scored better on benchmarks. Both smartphones also feature fast charging, but the Xiaomi Mi A1 has a USB Type-C cable while the Moto G5S Plus has an old-fashioned Micro-USB port. Xiaomi company is reportedly planning to launch the successor to its Mi Max headset in May this year. As per the leaked information, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 will feature Octa-core processor and pack 6GB of RAM. ZTE company Nubia on Tuesday launched three new devices in its home market, China, namely – ZTE Nubia M2, Nubia M2 Lite, and ZTE Nubia N2. All three headset will be available in Black and Gold color variants. The ZTE Nubia M2 and M2 Lite, which have been priced starting at CNY 2,699 (roughly Rs. 27,000) and CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 18,000) respectively will be available soon, while the ZTE Nubia N2, which has been priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 19,000), will be available from April 8.

All three new Nubia device sport 5.5-inch displays, but with differing resolutions, and all three also support dual-SIM cards in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration. The headset all run Nubia UI 4.0 but based on different versions of Android. Let’s start with the ZTE Nubia M2, which is the first headset from the company is stables to sport a dual rear camera setup.

The ZTE Nubia M2 Lite has several similarities to the Nubia M2 phone, but there are notable differences. It bears a lower resolution (HD – 720 pixels by 1280 pixels), IPS display, is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 SoC, and comes in 3GB RAM/ 32GB internal storage (ROM) and 4GB RAM/ 64GB internal storage (ROM) variants with storage expandable 128B via microSD card. It foregoes the dual rear camera setup and uses a single 13 MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and dual-LED flash. It also bears a smaller 3000mAh battery with fast charging support and supports Hi-Fi audio with DTS 7.1 sound. It measures 155.73 x 76.7 x 7.5mm and weighs 164 grams. It runs Nubia UI 4.0 based on Android 7.0 (Nougat).

Finally, we come to the ZTE Nubia N2. The smartphone runs Nubia UI 4.0 based on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), and sports a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080 pixels by 1920 pixels) AMOLED display.
